Also pedalforce have done group buys for a number of years now :

Don't think $580 is mega cheap for a Chinese carbon frame, seen others, eg Flyxii, for under $500 and that's for around 1000g

Remember also to factor in the postage and duty (sometimes you escape this, sometimes not).
End cost can approach the best deals that are sometimes available closer to home and with the risk factor it sometimes isn't worth it I feel.0 -
the only thing is the custom duty...i need to trawl through the velobuild site to see anyone from UK had a build and see what the custom was.Road - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg

I bought an FM098 earlier in the year and the customs charge was about £30. Total cost for the frame delivered to the door was about £400.0

would you recommend that frame? also what was the weight of the frameset and size of it?Road - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg

I haven't built it up yet. Winter project to spray it and transfer my race bike gear onto it for next year, but yes the quality of the frame looked good enough and there is enough posts on velobuild from people who have ridden and raced them, with good feedback.0

cool beans, sorry but do you know how much your frame set weighs out of the box? also did they assemble the headset for you or you got to do that yourself?Road - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg

Worth heading over to the roadbikereview forums for an extensive read of the threads on this matter : latest (v6.0)

I've been close to pulling the trigger on an FM066 for a while now. What £ price are you looking at?0
-
i was quoted $730 for the FM066 frame if bought singularly, + $14 for a headset (which may be worthwhile getting a branded one) the frameset comes with seatpost as well...$80 for shipping. someone on the roadbikereview forum said the custom was £30 for his FM098 which is $580 singularly so i guess its about £45 for custom.
so £550-600 for FM066...which may not seem to be a great price but if get a group buy it is a great price thenRoad - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg

That must have been based on an underdeclared value that was accepted by a clueless customs agent. The EU duty on bicycle parts is 4.7 per cent on top of VAT and anti-dumping duty on certain parts. Earlier this year I bought an FM066SL and some bits for about 750 dollars and Belgian customs now want to charge me well over 600 euros in duties (the standard one and anti-dumping), VAT, fine for an underdeclared parcel and administration fees.
Here's the EU regulation on the 48.5-per cent anti-dumping duty on certain parts, including frames and wheels: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex ... 005:EN:PDF When I ordered the frame I did know that there was an anti-dumping duty on bicycles but not on parts. Big mistake. I just assumed that there was no anti-dumping duty on parts because I had perused all the interweb fora and had never come across it among those who had ordered parts from the PRC. Another big mistake. Just a heads up as there is no reason why HM Customs should not charge anti-dumping duty. The EU is after all at root a customs union.0 -
as far as i can see from the HMRC custom and duty website, there is no anti-dumping duty as long as its less than 300 frames a month. basically the duty applies if you are a bike shop who solely buys frames and parts from china for assembly and sell for profit. but for individuals it should not have been applied. even for a shop there are methods to apply for exempt as the link you have provided. If you can demonstrate that you are producing a final bike with only 60% of the bike parts Chinese then you can apply for exempt. (the link doesn't say how to demonstrate it, i suppose it must be by value or weight.)
the Commodity code they should have used is 8714911011. I don't understand why the Belgians are asking for your cash when the goods are to be sent to UK?
anyway time to start gathering my groundset i think ^^Road - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg

Thanks for your help. Could you post a link to the relevant document on the HMR&C website? I live in Belgium.0

Found it: https://www.gov.uk/trade-tariff/commodities/8714911011 Thanks again Ricky, this is very good news indeed. Now all I have to do is to convince Belgian customs to comply with customs union rules...0
