Good stuff - pity for them they didn't sign Lucy Garner who looks like becoming the GB number 1 but I suppose it's good to have the GB riders spread around different teams.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

Women's cycling bores me, but this new Team can only be a good thing, so thumbs up!

Good stuff. Speculation that Sky may ultimately be the lead sponsor, but I think it would be great if it turned out to be a different "global company based in the UK".

Hmmm....they're going to be riding Pinarellos, which made me wonder...but that could just be the Wiggo connection

Yeah the Pinarello link certainly at least suggests Sky. Not that Sky would be a bad thing, it would just be great to get another major company involved in cycling.

Interested in what the twitter taliban will say about this - one female in particular who constantly bemoans the UCI treatment of women's racing and also throws accusations about Sky and Wiggo's performances and how he achieved them.

Cath Wiggins does indeed ride a Dolan. Nowt to do with the team's bike of choice though - however much you might rreckon that Mrs Wiggo's going to slip into the team from the track

Great news, the womens olympic RR was way more exciting than the mens and if this team can encourage more female youth/junior racers in the UK, then all the better.

Excellent news and really good to see someone who has earned a good living from the sport putting it back where it is really badly needed.
  • Any bets on Lizzie Armitstead turning about and joining after her pleas for a British team?

I thought Armitstead didn't want to be part of a GB team. Are you thinking of Emma Pooley? She has just signed for Bigla.

I get the feeling she wanted flexibility to finish her Phd.

Good news, I enjoyed the women's road race. More of the same please.
  • They even had Rochelle Gilmore on R2 this morning, talking about it. I think it was originally intended to be part of a bigger Wiggo interview section with Chris Evans this morning, which obviously couldnt go ahead - but at least they kept in the Gilmore interview.

also good interview on BBC site (miraculously)
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/20241339

    liked this:
But having beaten "many other professional women's teams" to securing Wiggins's support, Gilmore should be confident of landing a big player.

Wiggins sparked this race for his signature when he told reporters at the Tour of Britain that he wanted to invest in women's cycling. Gilmore, and many others, promptly wrote to the British star and outlined a three-year plan.

"I had to be quite specific. Bradley was very interested and he had lots of questions," she explained.

"It's not like he picked out a team randomly to support, he's genuinely very interested in how he can help women.

"He's not just going to throw money around and say 'yeah, I'm involved in women's cycling'. He wants to make a difference."

also explains why there's a bit of sourness coming out from Stef Wyman who wanted Wiggo to back his fanbackedwomensteam thing.

    Plus:
She is already in talks with a major British firm but is not giving any clues away, except for saying it is not already involved with men's cycling.

    So it's not Sky then...

Not sure I agree with her ideas about the tdf

"We could do the last 120km of each stage, and finish an hour before the men come in. I think it could work perfectly."

It strikes me that this would get no exposure as the Mens race would always have priority on TV. Plus where would the caravan fit in?? :P
