yes, if you want a warmer type one.0

I don't really know what I need, never worn one before. I'm in search of a cheap baselayer and a windproof. I have recently worn my fleece but then I'm too hot, but with just a cycling jersey I'm too cold and feel the wind.0

Try on-one, they've got a load of Merino baselayers on dirt cheap.
Or they did last week anyway.
Actually, I'll do it for you, here you go:

Are the planetX ones any good? Thinking about the long sleeve one that is on offer for a bit of warmth under a 3/4 length jersey. Same issue as the op, to cold with just a 3/4 length jersey and to hot with a thin ish zip up fleece on top. This was the one I was looking at http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/CLPXMBL190/ ... ayer_190gm0 -
I got one of each of these, seem good enough for me, wore one this weekend with just a long sleeve jersey and was nice and warm.

Had a browse in Decathlon after work and bought these:
http://www.decathlon.co.uk/simple-warm-id_8185607.html - base layer
http://www.decathlon.co.uk/protect-comfort-wind-id_8184388.html - windproof (actually for running)
Will see how I get on next ride.0 -

I find them to be excellent.
Merino really is one of those things that's as good as people make it out to be imo. I'd never bothered with it before, but at that price, thought it rude not to. I've now got a wardrobe full of it.
I find it does a much better job of regulating temperature, rather than just warming you up. So I get back from a ride and feel significantly less sweaty than I have done when wearing my old HH bases.
Plus it doesn't start to stink either, which is nice.
Get one, I very much doubt you'll be disappointed. And would be shocked if you didn't buy at least a couple more.0 -
I find the lighter weight merino from both Decathlon and On-one take on a distorted shape after washing. The 190gm ones hold their shape fine, but the 120gm ones look like someone has twisted the body. Not a problem though, because they are generally tight and stretch back to the correct shape when they are on your body. the lighter DHB ones dont have this problem as far as I can see.
Icebreaker merino is alot nicer feel, but for the money the Decathlon and on-one merino is fantastic.0 -

Thought these where the long sleeve ones going by the pic but are only short sleeve. Have just ordered two as they look to be a bit of a brucie bargain with a can of Gt85 spray to get the free delivery. Will see how I get on with the short sleeve and might buy some long sleeve baselayers off decathlon as they look to be cheap.0 -
They have long sleeve ones on there too0

I'm very cynical of cheap clothing, but the Decathlon ones look alright, tempted for £5!0
