Bikes for under £200

Hi
I am looking to buy a bike for leisure (off and on road) for under £ 200. Any advice on the best bike to buy would be greatly appreciated.
I have seen the Apollo Verge on Halfords in the sale for £150. I have had constant problems with the gears and breaks on my last 2 bikes, presumably because the parts are cheap and less durable.
Many thanks
Phil

Disagree, the latest Apollo hardtails are reasonable value (changed recently).
Learn to service brakes and gears (it's easy) and even a cheap bike won't give you problems with them.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
The ones they have on sale are not good though. Were apparently £300, now £150 - steel parts, 6 speed, quill stems.0

Completely disagree, no novice should be pointed anywhere near these things when there are decent starter bikes available from places like decathlon.0 -
