You can get this for 500 notes although all 500 notes would have to be fivers. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=75525

To be honest, I'm not sure what people are going to suggest here. B'Twin bikes seem to be regarded as the best value in this price range, so if he wants something better it sounds like he needs to spend more money.

    I would recommend looking secondhand.

£500 brings him close to finding a carbon framed bike with Shimano 105 or equivalent.
  • Second hand. Tell him to save a few quid for a quick service unless he's confident of doing it himself.

This looks decent for the money. viewtopic.php?f=40090&t=12888078

On the other hand, it would get him a new Triban 3 and Decathlon offer free servicing for a year as I recall.
  • Im afraid £500 in the world of cycling doesn't buy a great deal, especially road bikes. If this is his top end budget and cannot by any means stretch it then the best solution would be to try and find something 2nd hand on eBay or look for a bike that's 2/3 seasons old that is heavily reduced.

I'm not sure if you have heard of a Dutch brand called sensa but there making some great looking road bikes for a great price to suit all different budgets. At a quick glance he could buy something like this http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/b ... ecial.html if he can afford a little bit more then there is more selection but like everything, the better you go the more expensive they become.

I'd stay we'll clear of halfords specials and decathlon type bikes. putting it bluntly there crap. And will most probably drop to bits in no time.

tks for replies and maybe second hand is good start.I know its a case of he doesn,t want to spend to much incase he doesn,t like it then it ends up in the shed.Like most who take to the sport, myself included once the bug bites then spending more on better gear is a natural progression.
