GPS Tracker

Welling I'm going to university within a year and lets just say my commuter looks better than the average in the area
I don't want it to get stolen but lets face it....
I was wondering if you could recommend a gps tracker? I remember seeing an ad for on in mtbr uk or some other magazine
but I am in the US now so I hope that doesn't make a difference, but it might.

Don't know what that means.

But know they are quite pointless on bikes.

Buy a more ratty bike or make yours lower key.

I would definitely recommend you get a tracker for your bike. Mine was stolen over the christmas period from my locked garage and using my tracker interface on my iphone I located it accurately and passed the info to the local police station who returned my bike to me within hours. Mine is a ninja tracker - great bit of kit and not too pricey either!

Better idea - get insurance, get a insurance-certified lock. Leave bike alone, lock bike up. Bike gets stolen, you get new bike.

Personally I have a crappy bike for pottering round on, my nice bikes live in my flat unless I'm out riding them.

GPS devices are unreliable even if you've got an industrial grade device. These are not industrial grade, they're as cheap as they can make them. In order for it to be of use it would need 100% reliability. As someone who has worked with GPS for many years - it doesn't have this.

I keep my bike in my room at uni. We do have the added benefit of a very secure bike storage shed, but even then when I use it, I use a motorcycle chain and a D-lock to lock it up.

You can't be too careful, but a GPS tracker will be a waste IMO.
