Did I just get a free upgrade from 105 to DuraAce groupset?!

Let me explain. I lost 1 kg in bodyweight!

I was told that the difference in weight between 105 and DuraAce is around 0.5kg. So I just upgraded from 105 to DuraAce and saved myself thousands of dollars! Woohoo.

  • Has the weightless also improved the smoothness of your gear changing?

On the other hand you can spend "thousands of dollars" on Dura Ace and then ride through a puddle giving you the performance of 105....

Maybe you should start a new training fad along the lines of weightloss and puddle avoidance..?

Maybe this upgrade only applies when bike weight is >10% of bike + cyclist weight :P ?

Actually you've only lost 1kg of Shimano fat. Much better if you had lost a kilo of Campagnolo fat. Then you would have seen some real improvements!

Wow! That's almost 8 stone. I'm impressed. My wife only weighs that much and I can't imagine having to lug her around all the time.

Presumably you are now much fitter than you were but has it made a really big difference to your ability to climb?
  • huge difference before I couldnt go more than 60 seconds up the start of a mountain here in mallorca.. Now I can ride 4 hours up and dwon without stopping once so a huge difference. it must be more than 50kilo as its just short of ten stone at the mo. have ridden 20 thousand miles in the last two years though. I wouldnt even dream of carting my mrs around either! thats the whole reason i go cycling so much for the peace!
  • A good weight shedding dump before you go out has to be worth a couple of jumps up the groupset ladder....:lol:
I'm not getting old... I'm just using lower gears......
    Sirius - Steel Reynolds 631
Cove Handjob - Steel Columbus Nivacrom
    Trek Madone - Carbon

Weekends are out to Maldon/Burnham or Bulphan/Brentwood and beyond.

I bet you don't miss the weather :) Give me a shout next time if you fancy a ride out.

  • cor if only i had known! I was over for all last week for a bike fit up north then had the week in benfleet. Had a ride out planned for about 4 months with my mate and then he had to go away from fri-tues so spent the whole week and weekend looking for a ride but on my own gave up, was going to go over to billericay and try to run out with essex roads but what with the weather and stuff didnt get to go out until 9-9.30 got to shoebury and thought bugger than headed back, stopped at mcdonalds in hadleigh to thaw out then thought sod it put my bike back in the bikeboxalan and checked in online for my flight. I dont miss the weather for cyclign at all but do miss the nice winter stuff for when not on the bike. here it gets cold but not wintery in a nice way it just gets miserable wet and damp (ala today) Next time im over woudl love to meet up for a trundle out to maldon I had that planned but on my own with the cold couldnt be arsed.
