I have some Mavic wheels which I am considering de-stickering but unsure as don't want to start and then get stuck with a whole host of work.

Is it easy enough to do ?
What is the best technique ?
Do i need to buy anything before i start ?

Thanks

  • Some decals are easy to get off, some are a pain in the butt. Sometimes its best to get a corner up and then peel back slowly to get it off without leaving the sticky stuff on depending on whats its like. I think most rim stickers will be easy though

    alu rims or carbon?
  • Carbon

  • which ones exactly? If the stickers are not under lacquer then its just a case of getting a corner up carefully and peeling it back slow & steady
  • I have Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR's

If you peel them off carefully, you can resell them for quite some money... lots of people on wanna be a cosmic carbine...

  • I remember seeing a thread about someone who removed them from some cosmics and then decided they didn't like it
  • If they are on top of the laquer then use an hairdryer to warm the stickers up, once they start to peel keep the airdryer on them and they will come off easy.

Any residue can be cleaned off with WD40

  • as above. if you google the wheels under yahoo images you will find lots of images of with and without stickers. I took mine off and preffered it. dont know how you could sell them though as they are no way going to go back on in any way that would look good? mine certainly did not. As above the wd40 works wonders to remove residue, just make sure you wash it off afterwards dont want any of that on the brake track!
  • I think since you have the SLR with Exalith it won't look too bad. I took mine off but I don't really like it due to the alloy braking surface sticking out like a sore thumb.
