New frame advice

I've come in top a little bit of cash (PPI yeehahh!), and as much as I'd love to blow the lot on a new bike, I've promised the family a holiday so...
I currently a 2010 Ribble Gran Fondo. So was wondering what the I'd need to spend to get a worthwhile upgrade on GF frameset.
I've looked high and low and for anything that looks like a nice upgrade i'm looking at £2k+! I may as well buy a full bike (like the rose zeon that I like very much!) If I could buy the frame alone I would!
Can any point me in the direction of some reasonable frame upgrades - looking at max £1000 I reckon, must be carbon.

Thanks

If I were you I'd spank my money on a made-to-measure Legend. The HT4.7 would fit within budget. Custom built would be a great upgrade

I've not head of them before, but they are very nice!

I've never ridden Ti before though so don't think I could buy without trying.

They do build custom carbon frames as well. The HT series are their carbon frames.

    This is the HT4.7 http://www.legendfactory.eu/Collection2 ... fault.aspx

Could you tell me where you found out how much a 4.7 would be.

    Thanks

If one of these is your size it would be an amazing upgrade at the price.

    Yes Really

The Astra, is one of those great road bikes that only great manufacturers can make. Basso is one of those. Although not as well known as other italian road bike brands, like Pinarello, the Basso embodies the great quality and personality for which Italian brands and bikes are known and respected all over the world. Basso is an Italian bike manufacturer that started in a garage in 1974 and was registered as a trademark in 1977. Its founder and developer is Alcide Basso, brother of Marino Basso, the 1972 cycling world champion. The Basso workshop is in Vicenza, a city in northern Italy that is 60 kms away from Venice.

The Astra frame is handmade in carbon monocoque fiber, making it very light. It has full carbon legs and a monocoque carbon fork. The Head Set is Qantum Carbon Integrated, the Seat Post and Stem are Race Carbon, the Saddle is Fizik Arione and it uses Michelin Pro 3 light tires. The frame weighs between 0,920 kgs and 0,990 kgs and the fork weighs 0,360 kgs. The bike is very stiff offering a great deal of control and acceleration response.

    Now I'm liking that basso!
Pity its from winstanleys, as they are notoriouslty bad for service!

if this Basso had internal cables and a pressfit BB - I think I'd have ordered already. Don't know why, but I'm on the edge of ordering, but these 2 things are stopping me at the moment. Internal cables I could prob forgive, but should I forgive the Pressfit BB? Or are the not what they are cracked up to be anyway?

Could you explain to me what part of the monocoque moulding process is 'handmade'? Is it the lay-up of the carbon in the mould, or is just that the button on the machine has been pressed 'by hand'?

I doubt it if any Basso frame is handmade, quite honestly, especially at the prices they're charging for the frames. I've seen one up close too.

Take a look and make your own mind up I suppose.

Anyway I have an Astra frameset winging its way to me as we speak so will get up close and personal. I will let you know my verdict.

@rowlers - Yes the 2011 astra frameset from Winstanleys.

Ordered 15.30ish Monday, got email confimation Tuesday with Parcelforce tracker info and my parcel is currently loaded at Leicester depot ready for delivery today.

Unfortunately I have my doubts about the size (really wanted a 53 but none available) but they confirmed I could return it for a full refund if too large so thought it was worth a punt at the price.

rowlers - so the Basso frameset arrived at 10.40 today and I can report that it looks really nice.

The paint is gleaming and the frame sections are really 'beefy' without being ugly.

It feels really light too - almost worry it will break under my 11 stone + , middle aged body

Anyway I will take some photos when I am able and post on here (if I can figure out the code stuff for doing so).

So Winstaleys delivered within 48hrs of order and the frame came well packaged (presumably by Basso judging by the box and the italian writing all over the package).

Now I just need a group set. Summer build here we come.

Yes it is 68mm English thread BB. I am unconvinced by BB30 anyway so it suits me.

It is an oversized BB frame though with the Microtech BB (threaded) insert within it if that makes sense.
