Which lights?

Well need to purchase some lights, everything im purchasing currently is for the first time as I am new to everything road cycling. The lights will be used mainly to start with for commuting to and from girlfriends house (7 Miles) a few nights a week, thats a combination of well lit roads through town and some pitch black back roads. I will then use the lights when i get riding a bit more seriously. Dont really want to spend anymore than around £80 for a set and ideally they could do with being rechargable but if the rear is not thats not too much of a problem.
So done some research but cant decide between the following:
Cateye nano shot front and Cateye Rapid 5 rear; Total £78 (poissibly £72 if they come in stock on wiggle before discount finishes)
Nano shot- http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-hl-el620 ... ont-light/
Rapid 5- http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cateye-tl-rapid ... ear-light/
Or
The Moon x-power 300 front and Moon shield 60 rear; Total £82 (with 10% discount)

If anyone has expereince with any of these it would be great to hear your feedback or simply which brand you would prefer and why. As far as Lumen go and their brightness I think these will be ideal for what I require but i have no experience so open to all suggestions.

I've ordered two of these for the back of my bike... Currently 25% off at Halfwits, plus I have a 'Smart' Lunar 1 watt rear light on the back too!
I've got a Magicshine copy on the front with two 'Smart' Lunar 35Lux on flash...
Very dark rural roads where I live, so being seen is paramount!0 -
What are you riding? If you have an aero seat post and want to put the rear light on it you'll need to be a little bit careful picking a light that has a suitable mount.
This thread might help.Is the gorilla tired yet?0 -

I will be riding a Cannondale supersix Apex, not sure if I have an aero seat post though but I did opreviously read that this could be a problem for some rear lights. Is it the shape of the seat post that causes this problem?Cannondale Supersix Apex0 -
After a truly scary ride this morning (deluge, potholes and horrific spray), I really felt by flashing Kong Frogs were truly beaten by the weather. A quick stop at the LBS and I'm now itching to use my new Moon XP300 and Moon Shield light set... incredibly bright even in daylight. Very bright.
Never really appreciated how bad driving in spray was until I was on the bike today !Felt z95 - loving my first road bike0 -
A few years ago I decided to commute the 25 miles to work during the winter to keep fit. After spending hours and hours of research I decided to get a single high intensity LED light with external battery pack. I purchased this off eBay but Cycling Weekly did a group test a while ago featuring a similar light but for lot more money 'One23 Extreme Bright'. My commute is mostly through unlit country roads and I'm astonished at the amount of light this light gives off. I can easily average 35kph and still avoid all the pot holes. As soon as I get to work I recharge the pack for the return journey. Highly recommended.0

I ride a lot in pitch darkness using two Cree XML-T6 torches, one set to point into the distance and another closer. Very bright, can do 30mph down hill in total confidence. Cheap on ebay too. Battery lasts 1.5-2 hours on high beam.
I also run an AA Maglite with an LED upgrade as a head torch. If you look directly at drivers at junctions and roundabouts they WILL see you, but it's not bright enough to blind them! Handy for looking at the speedo or fixing things on the bike too. Always have more than one light in case of failure or a flat battery.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.
