Reasonable cost wet weather tyre

I want to get a set of wet/winter use tyres but without paying loads out for something that i optimistically hope wont get too much use.

I don't care so much about puncture protection, weight, longevity etc just grip in the wet.

Folding Schwable Luganos are less than £20 each - seems reasonable, any thoughts or alternatives at this point or less?

And finally for wet use, is a 25cc tyre going to be better for me?

Just bought GP 4 seasons for the wet winter months, seems to be very popular but more expensive than £20 each. Got mine from bike-discount.de as even with postage, was £6 cheaper than anywhere in the UK I could find (tyres there are £25 each + postage).

Well 20quid for Lugano is expensive:

Or maybe the Ultremo Aqua or just go for a straight race tyre like the ZX if 20quid is the limit.

  • Good spot on those Ultremo's. I had the ZXs before over the summer and were good but i'd rulled out the aquas as being too expensive but that site has them cheap!

You know the drill, cheap, light, strong. Pick 2 :)

I've not tried a lot of different tyres tbh. I ride Conti GP4000S on the good weather bike and Conti GP 4 Seasons on the winter bike.

Both are great tyres for what IMO. The 4 Seasons in a size 25. Noticeably less road buzz, plenty of grip, light enough, no issues with punctures and wear well. Just the issue with price, not cheapest. But pay peanuts you get monkeys.

second that :)--I`d rather pay a bit more for a good tyre that grips well than save a bit and take a potential spill, what`s a damaged body worth ? I`ve put my Rubinos to rest for winter as they`re not too good in teh wet and feel so much more secure on Conti 4 seasons or Vittoria Paves---both costly but both very good wet weather tyres from my experiences so far; just watch out for bargains on them :)

After seeing one clubmate run wide on a lefthander down Steep and another crash on a nasty off camber corner last Sunday, I say bollocks to using budget tyres. GP 4 season gets my vote.

  • Ok, bowed to peer pressure :)

GP 4 seasons ordered from bike-discount. I needed pedals also and they were really from them so spread the cost of postage out a bit. Tyres will work out at about £45 for two plus part of the shipping so not much over the £20 a tyre i had in mind.

Heres hoping that they will be a spectacular waste of money and that it remains dry all winter :)
