Strava/cadence/iphone

Started using Strava as a point of reference to mileage and routes etc, through my iphone4.

What do I need to get cadence to work with this app?

I have looked at the Garmins and My son is off to Dubai next month so have got him checking out duty free prices as I'm not really into paying out £200 on a watch.

But I do understand its relevance even though I've tried a heart monitor for running and I'm currently dead apparently. :?

Am I right in thinking that if I bought a Garmin with Cadence on it, that I still need more stuff to make it work?

If you bought a Garmin (with cadence) you wouldn't need your iphone at all. Use Garmin when cycling, then upload to Strava when home. Simples.

As long as you buy an edge500 or better which is bundled with speed/cadence sensor and HRM then no problem at all.
