I was talking with a colleague, who cycle commutes everyday, and he asked if I had seen him okay last night. I told him that I hadn't, and it was then that he told me "that was obvious, you pulled right out in front of me - I had to slam the brakes on". I had the car last night, and always check when pulling out of junctions, especially near work which is in the grounds of a university so loads of ipod wearing peds / cyclists about.

Apparently, I had stopped at a junction after coming out of my parking space, and he said I looked right at him for a few seconds before pulling out right in front of him  I swear I never saw him, and I make a point of looking twice, specifically for cyclists as I'm one myself. Perhaps he was passing by an office window and his front light blended in with theirs (he tends to wear darker clothing).

Did make me feel a bit uneasy at just how easily it can happen, especially as I make a point of checking for cyclists when I'm in the car.

I apologise for my actions, nobody was hurt, but I was wondering if anyone has ever been a SMIDSY rather than on the receiving end.
