Comfy training bike for mountain biker

Hi,

I am looking to get a comfy road bike that I can use for training through the winter. My criteria are:

MUST take mudguards as they will probably be fitted permanently
Relatively upright position
Double crank
Suitable for use as a commuter/town bike, nothing too bling

Can anyone offer any suggestions? It is a completely unknown area to me. I'd probably stick to 25c tyres and am also thinking about joining up with a local road club for winter rides.

    PS Top tube cable routing is always a bonus! Means I can use full length outers.
