Recently got back into mtb ing again after a few years out! And looking to upgrade and I have been looking around but would be open to suggestions to good bikes and good deals that people may have seen?

I mostly do xc riding with some downhill thrown in but not extreme downhill
What would people go for out of the above? My budget would be just over a grand to £1500
