  • Really nice bike. I recently got myself a Camber Expert 2012 model which is a similar colourway.

What made you go for a narrower bar? Just curious as most end up going wider.

Using it as a commuter at the mo no ideal but smaller bars are ideal on the way to work.
What size you got on yours I wa thinking I a 720mm bar

Wow that was bad! What I was trying to say was that I'm using the bike to get to work at the moment so smaller bars are ideal at the moment

What size bars do you have?

I was thinking of getting a 720mm bar

720mm is standard size on 2012 models

  • i have a camber and you need to watch out for the cable rub under the chainstay from the rear brake hose . it doesnt take long before it puts a hole in the tubing
falling off doesn't hurt....its the landing that hurts

This ^^^^ I sorted mine as soon as I got it as I had heard about the cable rub

I have a camber Expert, have just fitted some new XT brakes what a difference they make fantastic one finger braking
I had thought the Elixir 5 brakes were fine until I put these on and they are only on there second ride, I only changes as I was having problems with the rear rubbing and no mater what I could not get it to stop.

would be interested in a set of carbon bars as well but not sure what to get :?

  • As mentioned by others the stock ones I have are 720mm.

Narrower does make sense for commute I guess though.

Thanks guys for the info on rear brake hose. I didn't know that.

Yeah I sorted mine a few months back the lbs gave me some heli tape ( free) but I don't think I stuck it don't properly as its starting to peel and go yellow but then It was free so it was prob the cheap nasty stuff they just wanted to give it a home

I have also been thinking about a set of brakes but not sure xt sounds like a good choice
But next thing I will prob need is a new set of wheels mine have been trued up so many times and the have dished but there true at the moment I can say I have ridden this bike quite hard lol and using it for. Commute probly isn't doing it any good the road dirt just from a 4 mile ride in the wet is unreal

Any way guys thanks for the comment More welcomed

I can not believe how much of a difference it has made to the braking and like I say I thought the Elixir 5's were great,
with just one finger braking it now stops so quick, and the levers feel so comfortable
don't think you will regret getting a set of these on there :)

  • Hope you don't mind me asking a couple of things as a fellow Camber owner.

I looked at my bike today to check about the cable routing. On the inside of the chainstay, near the rear brake hose, it already has a clear plastic strip (ie. like some bikes have as a chainstay protector from the chain or in small patches for cable rub near the headtube). It is about 3" or so.

Should this be enough? or have the bikes that suffered the issue had this in place already?

On another note, regarding the brakes. I have shimano (M486) on my steel HT and compared to the Avid's on the Camber feel spongy and lack feedback or bite. They are still decent size rotors, 180 f & r, but as the Avid's were something of a negative point when choosing the bike (due to poor reviews by owners) I have been won over so far. So how would you say the XT's are better? Curious to know the difference.

    Thanks
