Calling all wheel builders

After bending a wheel earlier in the year I've got a practically new hub lying around so thought I'd give wheel building a go. Spent the evening measuring the hub and rim etc and after triple checking it looks like I need 263mm and 261 length spokes. Went to order some DT Swiss Competitions but they don't appear to do them in these lengths, so should I order a size up or down?

Cheers

Up, depending on what up is.

Up would be 264mm & 262mm, presumably that would still be the way to go (down would be 262 & 260)

    Thanks

you can get intermediate lengths - try sapim race if you cant find DTs. The lengths you calculated will be to the nearest 10th no doubt, so go with the even length thats closest. i.e. if its 263.4 then 264, 262.6 then 262 etc.

Go up evenly. 262 and 264. Or alternatively use 260 and 262 with 14mm nipples.

what calc did you use to give the lengths?

Used the DT Swiss one and double checked on another I found on the web.

Measured the rim using the method recommended in Roger Mussons book and after checked the manufacturers website and I was spot on. The hub is a DT Swiss but think the model (AM1900) is specific to Canyon so couldn't find any data for it. Measured it up and confident with the results. In case anyone's interested the figs are

    Rim ERD - 542
    LH Diameter - 51.55
LH flange to centre - 33.3
    RH Diameter - 57.9
RH flange to centre - 20.7

Spoke lengths came in at 263.1mm and 260.9mm

With those lengths its quite a close call, you could get away with any combo pretty much. But as I said, 263 is available, so go with that. Worth checking on the wheelpro site for another spoke length calc.
