Hi guys,

Just ordered a 2013 Reba RLT with poploc remote (in white :D) for a stonking price... Thing is, it comes with poploc and not pushloc...

Is this worth swapping out asap (i.e. to get a higher, unused value for the poploc) or are they much of a muchness?

Cheers chaps :)

Poplocs work pretty well, and have no resale value really, so I'd keep the poploc.

they both do the same job slightly differently.

Incase anybody is interested... I grabbed this:

Great price regardless but since it is the RLT version and has the remote, I'm happy as larry :)

(Didn't have much choice about the upgrade (well, that's what I told the missus :D) since my Recon Silver forks gave up the ghost yesterday...)

Is a fork swap easy enough to do at home or should I pop it down the LBC? Happy to do the odd tweak here and there but don't know anything about the hydraulic side of things or anything like that... Is is just a case of undo some stuff and swap them over?
  • You will need a pipe cutter to shorten the steerer and you will need to remove the crown race from the old fork and put it on the new. A new star nut is also required for the new fork. Can all be done at home.

Righto, might aswell have a go myself then... pipe cutter check, what size star nut and where could I get one? Is that really all I need?

Starnuts: 1 1/8 inch (standard size), a tool like the superstar nut setter is useful for fitting it but not essential. As for chopping the steerer. chop long and space out with spacers! That will give you better resale value. Id use a pipe cutter to get a score on the forks as a guide, then finish off with a good hacksaw. Otherwise you'll be there all day. Dont forget to file the inner and outer edges of the steerer cut.

  • The lbs will have a star nut. I do mine with a screwdriver that fits into the hole and hammer it in.
The only bit that can be a bugger is the crown race. Flat head and hammer. Gently tease it off (there will be a small indent on the crown to help you get the driver in). When putting it back on, grease the lower part of the steerer and use the flat head with hammer again. Firm taps all the way around should have it on in a couple of minutes.

    A hacksaw is fine

  • Out of interest, why can't I just reuse the starnut?

Its not meant to come back out basically. A new one will set you back a couple of quid. If you take your fork to the lbs when you buy it they will prob bash it in for you.
  • Hi adrenalinemunki,

just bought the same fork from On One - great price. I think you'll find it comes with the Push Loc rather than Pop Loc (mine did). For the Reba 2013 I think only the 10mm Push Loc is compatible.

This is the one query I have with the install:

The forks (unlike previous years) are by default locked (when no cable tension). The tensioning of the cable pulls the fork control wheel away from locked. However if I set up the remote so that cable is just taut when locked, then tensioning the cable by engaging the push loc pulls 10mm away from locked, but there is at least another 45 degs of turn left in the dial (away from locked). So my question is whether in this case the fork is fully unlocked. Tried to call Rock Shox in NL but they were totally unhelpful as soon as they knew I was a consumer.

Any ideas - anyone installed a 2013 Reba + Push Loc?
  • Mine just arrived, It is indeed the PushLoc... and the new 2013 version too.

Gonna have a go at fitting this bad boy tonight... I'll be posting my queries when I get stuck :p

    Hi mate,

Installed the fork last night, couple of learning curve problems but all resolved using a bit of common sense... Anyway, my remote does exactly the same with the lockout, after all, it can only pull it 10mm due to the throw of the remote button, so you must assume it is enough... Either way, the lockout does indeed engage and disengage and all feels right.
