I have a 2011 Trance X3 with the standard Giant Connect seatpost. Today at the bike park at Sherwood Pines I landed one of the tabletops wrong and actually bent my seatpost!
It wasnt a that hard landing, and I only weight 85 kg's, so I was really surprised.
On the way home I bought an Easton EA50 for £35. I just got in and have noticed the Easton is slightly shorter. The Easton comes in at 350mm whereas the Giant seems to be 375mm.
Will the Easton seatpost be ok with it being shorter? It seems to be about the standard length of seatpost after some research, and I wont have it higher than the maximum insert mark.
Or would it be better to get another seatpost that is the same 375mm in length? Another Giant Connect is about £20, but having bent one already, Im not so confident in them. I also found this RaceFace post of CRC:

Length will be fine as long as you keep it above the minimum insertion, check the manual for the bike the frame may need more in than the minimum mark on the seat post.
I have bent loads of seat posts, now I only buy Thomson Elite posts, expensive but they won't bend. I bent a Giant Connect seat post & an Easton EA50.
  • ive been running a 27.2 ea70 for a couple of years now, is a 350mm and into No3 on the back, i'm 100kg without kit bag and hepost has been Spot on!! would highly recommend one!!

as has been said, check the minimum insertion mark - if that is not visible, the shorted post will be fine.

re: thomson and bent posts - I am wondering if fitting a strong post, then more force is going into the frame, which cannot be a good thing. I;ve snapped a coupole of posts but yet to break one, and noi, I don't do jumps, anything higher than a kerb is a nono.
