Super light road bikes

Had this discussion with a few Guys from British Cycling today but what is the lightest proper road bike.

must have drops, and gears at least 18

any ideas?

Mainly a test to see how light technology can make us

The problem with this is that it all depends on your threshold of "proper" in terms of stiffness, durability and safety, and there is no agreed, simple way to quantify these things. So after a certain point you can keep getting lighter and lighter at the expense of usability, but there is no obvious cut-off point. You could probably build a bike out of polystyrene with an aluminium chain and plastic brakes, but you wouldn't want to ride it...

The Cannondale Supersix Evo Ultimate is sub 5kg.

This .... as it is the lightest production (so therefore proper) frame available so it's up to you what you bolt to it.

of course it is illegal to race that but fully road worth
