Just back from a charity preview screening. Superb film, best Bond film made in my lifetime probably. Superb pre - title sequence chase, bonkers baddie, a few old faces returning and some nods to past films. A couple of surprises at the end for me as I've avoided all reviews! I'll say no more other than it was a really good action film in its own right.

The thought of it being dubbed into Finnish is quite amusing - the film just feels so British!

I just wish they hadn't given Javier Bardem that ridiculous hair!!!! Honestly I think it cheapens the film

Loved it. Amazing opening sequence. Love Daniel Craig as Bond. **swoon** :) (Other half thinks it needed a bit more Bond Girl action - have to agree, possibly lacking in that area!) And yes, a few surprises at the end. Big thumbs up from me.

I'm thinking that its the best Bond film.. just wish my aching legs (60 miles in the wind earlier) and the overly hot cinema hadn't spoiled the experience!

Just saw it - really enjoyable but Bardem's character was probably the most ridiculous Bond baddie since Jonathon Pryce as "Elliot Carver" and the whole glass tank / jumpsuit scene was far too Hannibal Lector.

Very good film, but not quite as good as Casino Royale which had real grit and edginess to it.

I do think Daniel Craig is the best Bond so far.

    ??? don't recall this..

I enjoyed it, a bit less gadgety and not quite so "dark" as Casino Royale (which I thouht was great) - I think Bardem is a class act but yes the blonde long hair was just silly. Should have been a better car chase IMO.

The prison cell within a cell (where he shows his mouth!) - agree it was very Silence of the Lambs.

I've heard a few people say the car chase wasn't great but I thought it was pretty spectacular, especially the roof scene.

Saw it last night. Think its up there with the best of the Bonds. Plot wasn't too far fetched like the last few and i do think Daniel Craig is the best bond now. A good amount of humour in there too.

A friend described it as good but unusual and having seen it lastnight I had to agree, a real mix. Not a signficant plot of any sort but focusing on the characters instead, hardly any shagging (for a bond film) and a fair bit of gentle humour..I laughed at 'Welcome to Scotland'. Loved the cinematography of the final set-piece with the fire/night contrast but still not sure what to make of Bond running through traffic as M reads Tennyson in the background. I really enjoyed it overall.

A bond film with no gadgets to speak of, no cars to speak of, no plot to speak of and no Bond girl action to speak of. Add in a bit of nostalgic chinz and you can guess what I made of it. Better than the last one but not a patch on Casino Royale.

It was alright. I wasn't blown away by the opening scene, and it seemed to be veering back towards the gadgets/big villain's lair stuff of the pre-Daniel Craig ones. I reckon they should steer away from that and back towards Casino Royale.

Some bits very good though, liked the part in Scotland, very atmospheric.

Gadgets? They pretty much made the point themselves that there were virtually no gadgets, the Scotland scene is like an adult home alone due to lack of technology!

Oh and the fact that he can't act ruined it for me
    'Hello to Jason Isaacs'
  • Did like:
The fact that a lot of it was lit in gold - 50-year anniversary anyone?
The gentle poking fun at Bond movies of the past: exploding pens, DB5, etc
    The Scottish scenery
    The motorbike chase
    Severine Berlohe

    Didn't like:
Javier Bardem's ridiculous villain - particularly his hair
    Gaping holes in the plot
The 20 minutes of Bond-themed adverts before the film started - 007 fragrance, really?!

Plenty of fun but not as good as Casino Royale.

Saw last night at Odeon ABC Bournemouth on their super duper big screen. Think the digital film quality was excellent.
Good gritty Bond film with vingettes (is that the correct word?) of past bond movies ie; DB5. I have always loved the double entendres that Bond movies have and this does not disappoint in that respect.

Unlike most on here I thought Javier Bardem was excellent, despite the hair which probably was not needed to be dyed blond. Were there any plot holes? Not sure myself, would have to see another couple of times before sussing any out.

Down side the number of adverts before the film. Couldnt believe they would actually show a trailer for Skyfall either, that was just daft. Never seen so many prior to main event. What happened to Pearl and Dean.. da.da...da.da..da.da. dada..dadadaaaa.....

Next film to see...Jack Reacher. Though not sure that Tom Cruise will actually pull this one off as the main character on film. In the books Reacher is in the region of 6ft 5in and built like a brick 5hit house. And uses his stature accordingly to see off the badies. Should be interesting anyway.

I can't bring myself to go to see that. I nearly cried with laughter when I saw the trailer. He's driving a car, he's dressed to kill and he hardly looks (or sounds) threatening when surrounded by "baddies". Everything about the trailer showed that they've just ridden rough-shod over the character in the books.

I used to read all the Reacher books until last couple of years. Lee Child is turning them out at a rate of knots just to please the publishers who obviously demand high turnover of work. I will go to the film purely out of interest. I do think that the money of Hollywood has spoken here. When I first heard that they were making the film I could not think who they would ever get to fill the characters shoes. Cruise is would never ever have featured on my radar. Still do not think anyone is really capable of carrying this off. For me it is the fact that in the books Reacher is such a tall and big intimidating ex soldier. The only current actor I could think of is a hardened up Vince Vaughn. Think he has the height but needs to get bit more weight/muscle. Though not sure he has the acting skills to change from his usual RomCom genre.
