  • I recently put slicks on my MTB. After much deliberation I went for Conti Sport Contacts 26 x 1.6 and have been very impressed. Certainly worth looking at and can be had for £14 ish from Ribble Cycles.

    Yes, tread achieves nothing on a road bike as the tyre width is so low and the ground loading so high you don't have a problem clearing water, I also ride gravel (hard packed) paths on mine with no problem although you do feel the bike 'squirm' a bit!
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
