Going to York for a week any good rides to try unfortunaliy won't be taking my bike so will need to hire

    depends on what riding you do.
    for flat, old railway line use the trans pennine trail from the back of the racecourse. this goes south for 15 miles to selby. nice day out for a tootle.
    dalby forest is a great trail centre, but as you say 30 miles out of york. head north and you will hit the moors, some good natural stuff up there.
    i believe cycle heaven in york do hire (or they used to)
    harrogate area to the west has some natural stuff.
    its worth looking on the hull and yorkshire thread, giggsmaster is the one to speak to regarding the moors and dales.
