Buying a jump bike

so i want to buy a jump bike for doing some dirt jumps an stuff, ie been looking on the net an most of them have solid forks, witch i wasnt really expecting.

why are they like this, is it better than havin suspention? should i find one with it?

Lighter, stiffer - some just prefer them as they land smoothly.
