A spoke on my Cole C24 lite wheels (above) broke (rear wheel spoke broke), and went massively out of true in seconds. I thought these wheels were supposed to be super stiff?
The hub spoke arrangement is said to be different from other wheels, is this something the LBS/Evans bike shop repair man can do or should I look for someone a little more specialist? Also is this going to be an expensive repair?

A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game

"Very high spoke tension makes these sporty lightweights stiff and strong"
Only stiff if all the spokes are there. High tension will make out of true-ness worse than a normal wheel once one is gone.
Don't know about repair I'm afraid. I'm trying to work it out for mine which went last night- Genesis Croix de Fer

The fewer spokes you have the more each spoke is having to hold the wheel in true. Ping a spoke in a wheel with very few spokes, and it will go badly out, due to the high tensions in the surrounding spokes.
Looks to me as though it has straight-pull spokes, they're a pain in the arse to find. Good luck.0 -
Yes, as per above with high tension wheels. If you want something you can carry on riding with a spoke down, you need to get standard 36 or 32 spokers, when spokes have gone in my RS80s, the bike is essentially unrideable immediately until I can get the spoke fixed as the wheel goes completely out of true... My local bike people managed to put the wheel right without much trouble although I sourced the spoke, I didn't want them fitting some kind of cheap generic rubbish!Do not write below this line. evans should fix it as its an exclusive product.
however any brilliant mechanic should be able to make a spoke for it buy cutting and then threading another spoke. as they are weird spokes but they have a screw on either endBMC TM01 - FCN 0

Look like standard straight-pull spokes, rather than double-threaded. They're much the same as j-bend, only without the bend.0 -
The spokes are oddballs on these, threaded at both end - at the hub end they thread into a little cyclinder, which clips into place.0

i know what im talking about doing it is a different matter though.
But like i say a very good mechanic should be able to create their own spoke for it by cutting down (the attachment end, not the screw end ) and then threading it.BMC TM01 - FCN 0

i have a racing 3 set somewhere, if you break a spoke these things can be like gold dust so i keep a set in my parts bin. Will probably sell them now as i no longer have a rear racing 3...BMC TM01 - FCN 0

I think this holds for many factory wheels. My old Shimano R560s were a mare to find parts for, and the RS10s seem to have similarly bespoke (groan) spokes and nipples. Built in obsolescence, innit.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

yep, which is why i now have 105 hubs with open pro rims for day to day business. and chris king hubs and enve 6.7 rims for racing.

Yes, for the larger rider for commuting you want plenty (32+) of normal spokes. Save the nice wheels for the weekend.0

DDD - what was the outcome? I bought a pair of these hoops and probably only raced <500miles on then before I to had a rear spoke go. Fecking useless. Was the day before Marmotte as well.
Anyway, just getting round to fixing it I see Evans have the spokes in stock so I assume they would have no issue repairing them.0
