Doesn't really matter does it?
They probably clicked on your ride on the leaderboard and had a look at it.0 -

Ha, I got the same today from him. Kudos on my totally unremarkable commute and lunchtime run.0

I sense strava is trying to be overtaken by marketing nonesense. Next time you get kudos, it will have a comment saying. Hey, nice ride out there, why not replenish your energy with dome Go energy bars, available for 12.99 on amazon.Cube Attain SL Disc

I got some guy who i don't know from Adam wanting to follow me. Iv'e never met him, but see he rides 'some' roads I do.
I have ignored him thus far.
We may become best buddies if I accept - but we will never know.0 -

I have some local lad who gives me kudos EVERY time I ride, creepily it's there minutes after my ride uploads! I do find it a bit strange...

You have a strava stalker.. make sure your rides are cropped within a 5000m radius of your house (there is an automatic feature you can set).. and consider contacting the police.0 -

I'm not too fussed really, I have over 50 kudos now 8)
I tend to be more worried something has happened to him if the kudos doesn't arrive within 24 hours!0 -
I just posted the following on one of the other Strava related threads.....
On a positive note... I spend about a third of the year in France and noticed that there was a French rider who was showing on many of the segments I ride over.
To cut a long story short, I rode a particular segment back in the summer, he made a comment and gave me kudos.. we exchanged a few messages and a few weeks ago we met up when we were in France this October and rode together a couple of times. I've now got a French riding buddy (really nice guy) and I'm discovering new routes and getting pushed as he is a bit faster than me.. perfect.“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”

First of all I'm not a complete nutjob, just bored at home waiting for something to arrive, however...!
I don't use strava but am aware what it is so I thought I'd have a quick look. I was amazed by the amount of detail there is on here that's open to anyone. In 5-10 mins I managed to work out where 2 people live (to within a few houses), what they look like and when they are likely to go for a ride.
This info may seem harmless but if you think of the type of people who use Strava: Cyclists with generally expensive bikes, into technology, likely to have relatively large disposable incomes, nice cars...
Suddenly it seems worth following a few people on Strava, maybe have a drive out and sit on a street for an hour... I'm sure you get the picture!
I'm now following 500 people! (joke)0 -

Was going to post something similar, although to be fair to strava there are ways to limit the amount of detail you dish out.0 -

I don't know about that, someone can just drive by your house as see what car you have and the area/state of your house will give a decent indication of what's inside (not in all cases but in most) I'm also not to sure on the bike thing, there is a guy around my way he's atop all of the boards and I met him recently he rides a £500 trek!!
That's said I do take your point, I'm the kind of person that doesn't want his name plus address advertised in one public place, and when I first set up strava a random guy told me to add my postcode as a private place IMO strav should make it clear that these options are there when you set up your acc (they might do this, I don't know as I created my acc from my iPhone) then people would have the option at the start. One plays football, tennis or golf, one does not play at cycling0 -
I find the privacy on Strava decent. My home address and work address are not viewable by anyone. So if you do happen to stalk me on strava, all you get is a mental picture of an average cyclist.Cube Attain SL Disc

I think you may be quite surprised what lengths criminals go to and if there are ways to gain an advantage, remove risk and ensure a higher success rate then they will/are on to it!
In the 10 mins I spent I found an address in Liverpool and another in North Wales. I don't for a minute blame Strava though (well not for this!) and I'm not suggesting people here who use it do not understand the risks etc, but you only have to look at Catnip on the other thread and how easy it was to basically find out a lot of factual information about him- name, work, hours, tel no... to understand how little effort people put into security- Luckily for him the only crackpots likely to be sending him death threats were in his head!
It does not matter what its worth, its what they think its worth!0 -

I do this to people who are local to me who are much better. I follow them to see how much they train and how much i should be pushing my self. I didn't really think it weird to be honest.0 -

Nothing wrong with a bit of strava stalking! I keep a watchful eye (from 5000m damn you!) of your rides when you are over in Cambs!0 -

I like to sit in a tree overlooking your house... its much more fun stalking in person
(but this post has prompted me to go and strava-stalk you.. going to give you Kudos for all your recent rides .. which is hard since you haven't uploaded for 10 days!)Joeblack wrote:ALIHISGREAT wrote:Pilot Pete wrote:I have some local lad who gives me kudos EVERY time I ride, creepily it's there minutes after my ride uploads! took me a while but I got there in the end0 -
I just don't get why you would give somebody kudos that you don't know! - however, keeping an eye on the person who's just ahead of you on some segments could be good for your training (how many rides a week, how far etc) especially if your determined to be quicker than them...0
