Can anyone recommend a campsite near Gap, France?
I have a campsite I've stayed at previously just outside of Carpentras (Pernes-les-fontaines). I plan to rock up there on 13/7/2013 and then cycle to Ventoux early the next morning to watch the conclusion of Stage 15.
Currently my plan is this:
Arrive in france 13/7/2013 and stay in pernes-les-fontaines campsite
Cycle to Ventoux to watch conclusion of stage 15 14/7/2013
On rest day, 15/7/2013, cycle to Gap to stay at new campsite (Need to find one)
Watch Vaison-la-Romaine > Gap stage on 16/7/2013
Watch TT - Embrun > Chorges on 17/7/2013
Watch from Alpe-d’huez for Gap > Alpe-d’Huez on 18/7/2013
Possibly watch start of Bourg-d’Oisans > Le Grand-Bornand stage before returning to England
Grey areas in my plan currently are:
- the campsite near Gap - I can google to get one but I'm after a personal recommendation if possible.
- Method of travelling to France with my bicycle and no car as wife needs it for the kids.
Thinking of eurostar to Avignon and then cycle from there? May hire a car from Avignon but trying to keep costs down by cycling where possible, plus the area is likely to be congested with cars due to the tour.
Any tips gratefully received!
