Evening all
I'm in the market for a new phone and was going to try the Nokia lumia 800, and I wanted to have a go on strava.
Now,until I read the article on BR homepage about the apps for smartphones, I didn't realise you couldn't use it on a windows phone.
I think there was only one app they showed for a windows phone.
Does anyone know if there are anymore? Anything similar to strava? I'm not that concerned about comparing myself to anyone else, but I would like to be have a look at my data.
The one they show on homepage is sportstracker, anyone have any experience of this?
Or would I be better off with a different phone?
Many thanks
Phil

Why not go for a Garmin 200. I got mine from an online offer at Halfords. A great gadget for 100 with the offer
You can then get a phone to make calls. 8)0 -
Think you can get endomondo on Windows phone 7.. so you can export the GPX and upload it to strava.0

Ive got a Garmin Edge 500 for sale £1200

I would re-think your 'telephone' choice. Nokia are hardly at the fore-front anymore.
I just have a crappy Google Huawei android phone that isnt particularly great but it's what I'm running Strava on. I looked at the apps available & found Strava looked the best option. I'm enjoying it too, it's definately added some motivation to my riding.0 -
I would say that if Windows Phone's market share starts to grow, Strava will probably develop an app for it, and as ALIHSIGREAT has said, use an alternate method of getting the data onto Strava.
Failing that, a GPS computer (ie. Garmin) will do the job, and I think Bryton now allow their units to export to more places than their own website now.0 -
Thanks for the replies, but I don't want to get a Garmin, cos I'd don't want to spend £100 on a gadget,if I can get something similar on a phone for a couple of quid.
And I don't want to go down the road of a second phone.
The only reason I'm changing the phone is cos I can have a new one for cheaper than I'm paying now 8) (contract phone)
I'll have a look into the endomndo thing, I just want to keep things simple and cheap.
Anyways thanks again.
Edit. Actually, thinking about it, and bearing in mind I only ever use a phone for calling or texting, I think I'll go down the route of any old phone as long as its cheap and will run strava. I think I got a bit sucked in by the whole new phone thing and got a bit carried away :oops:0 -
I'm in the mobile industry, and Windows Phone 7.8/8 has the chance to turn the whole thing on its head. It also has the chance to fall flat on its face too. The Nokia Lumia 800/900 is a very capable device, and should be available as a bargain now as the new 820 & 920 are out in a week or so. That said, I've managed to break both an 800 and a 900 in the space of a month - they're not very drop resistant. The 900 perished when it fell out of the saddle bag whilst stationary (it was getting on my wick in the jersey pocket) - so a drop from a 60cm frame being, what, a metre?
Anyway, I was looking on Windows marketplace last night for Strava - no. Endomondo - nope. In fact the only one of any note seems to be Mapmyride - which does, from memory, have a fairly good social media function. Used it for a while as a few mate were, but it wasn't compatible with BlackBerry and Endomondo.0 -
Download Endomondo from the marketplace. Use that to record rides. Export it from their website when you get home (in .gpx format) and then upload it to Strava. Works perfectly for me (Nokia Lumia 710)!

Hi,
Me and a friend just released a 3rd party app that supports tracing and upload directly to strava.
If you want to check it out, you can pick it up here:

Also, we set up a wordpress blog for communications:

I use an old mobile for making calls and have just bought a Bryton 20. The basic model is less than £90 but I bought the one with HRM and then added a cadence sensor as an added luxury. The Bryton site works well and one just clicks on a box to export into Strava. I have seen a few folks use mobiles as GPS trackers and they all moan about battery life when on a long ride (200k, etc.), which isn't a problem for a device that is made for the job.0

I have a windows phone. They are awesome. The Lumia is awesome. Get it.
There are a few apps you can get such as mapmyride, endomondo. As someone said you can export the GPX file from endomondo and upload it to strava.
I personally use a very simple GPS logger, which uploads the GPS file to dropbox. I then download the GPX file from there and upload it to Strava. It sounds like a hassle but it takes less than a minute. The beauty of my simple GPS logger is that it doesn't ever use data signals. Only Satellite.0 -

I've got a Lumia 800. Had it for a year since it came out and it is a great phone. No Strava app unfortunately but endomomdo works a treat and I export the .tcx file and import into Strava on my laptop. I fouind the GPS on the 800 to be far more accurate than my previous android phone but that may have improved recently.
I've also dropped my phone and it was fine (from roof of Ford Focus height). I'd recommend having a look at gadgetshieldz cases as they are the mutts and cheaper than the Zag ones as well.
I doubt though that Strava will get released on WP7 but maybe WP8 might get it but to be honest the user base is so small at the moment, it won't be any time soon.0 -

Wow! Look mate, the app is free, we made it because we use it ourselves and I know for a fact that people around the world have it working - including myself. If there is a bug in the app, preventing it from working on peoples phones it would be better if we could work out what that bug is, so we can fix it. You using lots of exclamation marks, being all upset and stuff, doesn't exactly encourage me helping you out.
As for the availability, we haven't set any explicit restrictions and we have a bunch of downloads from the UK, so not sure whats going on. It does need 7.5, so make sure you've updated the phone to the latest version.
If you have the app running, but the avg speed/distance havent updated, this means that the app havent gotten any positioning data yet. In this case, nothing will be uploaded to strava which might the issue in your case, Bustacapp?0 -

Don't mind admitting I was wrong. App is working now and is awesome!!!
thanks bro!!0 -
Glad its working!
We're making incremental improvements to the app, so adding an activity feed is on the list of stuff we're considering..0
