If we are to believe in the beginning there was nothing ( there HAD to be something) it would follow there was no atmosphere, which = no noise so should it not be the big quiet. As sigourney weaver found out "in space nobody can hear you scream".

But there lies the paradox. Where did the "something" come from?
Pondering that will do your head in.

The big bang is the theory of what occurred after the beginning of the universe, before that the event doesn't even have a name, I suggest the Quiet Sssssh, and yes in space you are right no one can hear ice cream

as the universe is expanding, it therefore it is capable of contracting, so the big bang could have been the end result of the last contraction to start the expansion once again ad infinitum..oh and have you heard my theory on dinosaurs.. they're thin at one end much, much thicker in the middle and thin again at the far end, right that's that sorted now to solve the world economic problems, illness, disease war etc, but first must have some lunch :D
All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....

Ah, but the expansion or contracting must have started somewhere, and with "something" otherwise nothing is expanding or contracting.
    Back to square one.

There must have being SOMETHING forever, how does SOMETHIGN just randomly appear, what was here before the universe, and before that, and before that and so on, on, on, on, onn, onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn........................................................................................

well it wasn't really that there was nothing, there was just no time to measure it against, ie time didn't exist before the big bang, therefore being no time there was nothing to exist in it... possibly.. who knows

I don't think anyone knows, although some are making a career out of it.
As long as they are, I will be the annoying 6 year old asking why? Why? Why?....

What existed before the big bang implies something exists now. If something does exist now do we actually know what it is and can therefore say it didn’t exist before?

  • What we do know is that the universe is expanding and that logic plus observational evidence, such as CMB Cosmic Microwave Background tells us it began from a single point.
What we don't know, yet, is if it was the only one to happen or part of a collection of events such as Brane, String or others theories. There is strong mathematical evidence for many of them.
Another thing to consider when thinking about what happened before the BB is that we are only just delving into a hidden world, where all the the standard notions and parameters of human thought may just go out of the window so to speak, such as the words we tend to use to make sense of the world like, "before", "start" and "end". There are possibilities of other dimensions, and to start to tackle it you have to change the way you think.

Spooky Big Bang (BB) has the same initials as Bottom Bracket (BB) where again, all the the standard notions and parameters of human thought go out of the window

You're defining the problem in terms of what your puny brain can understand. Time and space are different to how you preceive them. The 'instant' that wasn't an instant in the way you comprehend it.

You don't need to know 'what happened', where the matter 'came from' or what's going 'to happen next'. The answer to these questions is beyond your understanding. Run along and find some crayons to play with.

How many dimensions can you perceive or comprehend?

Everything you understand is a simplification of 'reality' based on the limitations of your powers of understanding. I'm not being funny or insulting, but nobody can ever understand what happened because we're just too simple-minded to actually understand it.

    Now, where are my crayons?

Maybe its analogous to the fact that our eyes (unaided) cant ‘see’ the majority of the EM spectrum, except much, much more complicated!

Again, the answer is that no one knows.
Can they stop pretending that they do then?

we're all on a pitri dish or w/e they called, time is on a different scale for us, so the needle is slowely coming down onto the dish, when it hits the dish we're dead.

For something to exist it must be measurable. As there was no Time before the Big Bang then nothing could exist as there was time for it to exist in.

Ergo, you have no time to worry about this problem.

What you should be worrying about are all these imaginary people you keep seeing every day.

Can I offer an alternative theory here? Maybe there is a superior being, let's call it 'God', and this superior being has always been there and created everything (well, it makes as much sense of the big bang ;) ).

It was me, guys. I was trying to make a soufflé but got my vanilla essence mixed up with my jar of dark matter. Sorry for the mess.
