New rear wheel or crank

I have a 2011 Specialized Hardrock disc that had new BB and rear wheel fitted after 400 miles (6 months use)
The replacement rear wheel cost £60 when said LBS gave it a service, nothing fancy fitted, standard Shimano hub. Was a bit annoyed that it needed this much, after 6 months use. Bill came to £90 haven't been back since.
Just replaced the rear cassette and chain after 800 miles but am now getting a bit of chain slip when in middle and large rings at the front, using the smaller cogs on the back.
Didn't happen with the old chain/cass.
All gears are changing smoothly, not jumping to another cog, it's just when under heavy load on the flat,
that a slight slip / bit of give, sometimes happens.
Mainly ride really gravely tracks so hence the high wear. ?
Thinking of getting a new crank before wheels, what will be the best upgrade cranks, without going over the top for my bike.
I can upgrade any parts I want, as I do the accounts but N+3 is in serious discussion at the moment.
Appols for a long post

Best chainset is the Deore - though you should be able to change the rings on what you have.0

Cheers Supersonic
Already looked at it, now on my list, do you reckon it may cure the prob
or just fit and see, then if not, get new wheel or new wheel set, so they match.0 -
New wheels will not cure your problem - the only problem with new rings or a chainset is that the now older chain might skip if it has worn to the old rings.
What chainset do you have?0 -
Original front crank that came with the bike, just put new sram chain and 7 speed cog on the back.0

Is there a model/brand name on it? Are the chainrings mounted with allen bolts?0
-
Just popped out to the garage and it's a Sram crank using allen bolts but if I can spend some money
and get a full upgrade then I'm all for it, rather than replace the rings.0 -
I'd replace the rings for now, and think about an upgrade to a 9 or 10 speed system in the future.0

Caution, some chainsets look ike they have allen bolts and are in fact cheap riveted.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
