Winter riding gear

Hi.
I'm looking at getting some winter clobber but I'm not sure what to get.
At the moment in cooler weather I wear padded tights, normal cycling socks, clip in shoes with overshoes, under armour cold gear base layer, a cycling jersey from aldi, skull cap and helmet and wind proof gloves.
But it's not enough as its getting colder so shall is it better to wear more layers or thicker clothing, also I'm in the losing weight period so anything I buy now won't fit in a few months, but I was thinking of buying a jacket ones I like the look of and have decent reviews cost a mint, can anybody recommend a decent jacket please and anything else I should look at buying.
Thanks.

For me its all about layers, I've recently purchased arm & leg warmers which have proved to be an excellent buy! These were DhB from Wiggle, resonable price & very much done the trick.
A gilet type wind sheet is also perfect over a cycle jersey/ top as it keeps the core body warm without overheating.
If your looking for cheap now then again I'd suggest DhB they do a very nice jacket online for £40 & when the weights fallen off treat yourself to some Rapha!0 -
hello AAG, i did a similar thing (using lots of layers) which most people will recomend, however i decided to buy an autumn/winter jersey to see if it would be any better. I too am in the middle of a weight loss plan and didn`t want to spend lots on something i might only get one seasons use out of, i eventualy opted for a dhb ss core long sleeve roubaix jersey from wiggle for £26.99 (it had 20% off) although it is now £29.99 with 10% off. Staight away it felt great and realy comfortable, i wear a long sleeve base layer underneath it and thats all. It has kept me toasty warm on some bitter mornings over the last couple of weeks and i am realy impressed at how little it cost in comparison too a lot of "big" brands.
Hope this helps a little, Phill B.Hills hurt but sofas kill.0 -
Thanks for that peeps. Ill be on wiggle tonight placing my order.
Are cycling jackets supposed to be tight or loose, and even though I wear leggings is it worth wearing leg warmers on top, and can any body recommend and thermal tops.MTB- Cannondale SL2 2011

Personally, I pick up thermal base layers on the cheap when Lidl and Aldi have their cycling sales, but if you want to go for a named brand, I hear good things about Craft.0

Cycle kit is worn neat - if worn loose it flaps about and all the trapped, warm air is lost and you'll cool down quickly.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Always have a few sheets of a quality French newspaper in your back pocket for the descent, see this video at 53 seconds in
