Disaster earlier came off the boardwalk just after the stegasaurus at the chase landed on my shoulder tearing the ligament and dislodged my collarbone :( Have to wait til tues to see the specialist to see what next.
Was really peed off as i have done that section loads of times but it was really slippy on there and another guy bit the dust just after me as well.

Anyone else done something similar give me an idea of how long it will take to heal?

Front wheel washed out on a boardwalk about 4 years ago and I cracked my wrist... dangerous things in the wet!

    Speedy recovery etc etc..

    Thanks guys,

Well surgery it is then :-q they are going to tie my collarbone back in place.
Fingers crossed I will be in tomorrow providing a bed is available. Major downer is 12-16 week recovery time, 8 of that I will not be able to move my arm :-q

You better start worrying - that x-ray shows you have bad aids worms.

Just like chicken pox, can only catch it once, you'll be fine.

    GWS :)

That's a long recovery time. I've just recovered from a broken collar bone, had to have surgery to plate and screw it back together. It was 4 weeks after surgery before I was allowed to use the arm again and 8 weeks before I was allowed to use the arm with no restrictions.

Hope you get well soon I'd also recommend sports physio. Use the NHS to get you back to normalish life then supplement it with a few sessions from a sports specialist to really get you back to 100%. My experience with NHS is good but their main aim is to just get you functional again not always back to your best though.

Yeah, being fatal, you'll only catch it once.

Yikes, as your rib cage appears to be upside down, it really is going to hurt and then some. Good luck!

    Hi,

Just under a year ago I did this whilst on (off really) the bike.

    break.PNG?psid=1

Which was fixed during surgery the following day to look like this

    fixed.PNG?psid=1

It seems that the injuries are similar but the shoulder end of mine was smashed in to around 6 bits, so a lot of trauma. I could move the arm after 3 weeks or so but obviously not under strain and was not back on the bike for around 10 weeks. The plate was removed in August as it was in an unusual position to over hang the shoulder end to provide support for the little screws. After the plate came out I was back on the bike after 3 weeks as it was only tissue damage. The bone is much thicker so I assume stronger too. I asked the consultant to fill the holes left from the screws, which he did from some excess he shaved off the end.

Physio is pretty important here, apparently some of the small muscles that are used for stability and control can shut down when there's a lot of trauma. I wasn't particularly disciplined which held my recovery back a little.

    Good luck!

19 months and 3 ops later went out for my first ride :-)

Final op was clavicle excision and a tendon graft using a hamstring. It still isn't 100% so won't be flying at BPW just yet but getting there :-)

I have had similar injuries. Four weeks off the bike for me.
