Racer brake problem?

So been out for a test run on my new carrera tdf.
Now this is the first time I have ridden a race bike, the brakes are not like on my mountain bike.

It seems like I squeeze the levers and not a lot happens, but then saying that at slow speeds going downhill they seem to work fine.

Is it my brakes or is it because its a different type of bike that I need to get used to?

  • Brakes need time to bed in, they're all a bit spongy for the first few miles. If you are comparing them to MTB disc brakes then you will notice a big difference.

You may also find that different compound pads help.

Do look carefully at how they adjusted though and check that the whole face of the pads is flat against the rim when you brake.
  • I think it's just me. Had a long ride today just started braking sooner. Seems to be the way forward, until imhitmthe guy infront.

    Yep, allow more braking distance.
