New chain slipping - cassette OK
I fitted a new chain a week ago and had my first trip out since. A very frustrating ride indeed as the chain kept slipping, especially on hills. The cassette's not too old (1000-1500 miles maybe) and having checked the teeth they are all fairly flat and not shark toothed. I fitted the chain (it's a triple) using the advice in Zinn's book. Do I need to take a link out ?
All advice very welcome as I can't go on another ride like that again.

was the old chain badly worn?
if it was, then it will have worn the cassette, causing a new chain to slip
if you've still got the old chain, measure it to see how worn it is...
measure from the centre of a rivet, 12 full links, the rivet at the end will be on the 12" mark for an unworn chain
when the rivet is 1/16" further along it's time to replace the chain, if it's allowed to reach 1/8" the cassette will have been trashedmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
The old chain was disposed of unfortunately. I have got a new cassette which I'll pop on and go for a 20 km jaunt with some hills which should be enough to establish if it's the cassette or not.0
