Wheel moves sideways when braking

I have a Boardman Hybrid Team with Avid Juicy 3 disk brakes. The bike is only 5 weeks old and I am new to disk brakes. I just noticed that when I brake the front wheel moves 3 or 4 mm to the right. I am pretty sure this is not meant to happen. The bike is due for its free 6 week service but I would like to know what is wrong before I talk to Halfords.

Sounds like your hub need to be tightened... if you grab the wheel, you should be able to move it sideways too...
I think your 3-4 mm are an exaggeration... that much would throw you on the pavementleft the forum March 20230 -
Thanks Ugo you are right.
I just went an checked and it does look like the hub. The total amount of movement at the rim really is 3mm when I push then pull it sideways and there is a slight clunk when I do it. I can see the disc moving sideways slightly so I know it is the hub. The front disk always has made odd noises.
Is it just matter of adjustment or should I insist on new parts as it has only done 150miles ?0 -

It depends... if it is a ball/cone bearing, then all you need to do is to tighten... if it is sealed bearings, then it could be the cap which has gone loose (as above) or it could be the bearings are gone... I suspect it's the formerleft the forum March 20230 -
Whatever the cause get it sorted out before riding again as that kind of play will do damage to the bearings.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

As soon as I noticed I turn round and went home - only half a mile fortunately. It is now hanging up awaiting mending and I am feeling miserable as I cannot go out on it0

They're pretty simple things. Take a good look at it and you'll probably work out what's wrong pretty quickly.- - - - - - - - - -
