What's a spoke protector?0
-
dunno.. but aren't they the plastic things that sit between the hub and cassette?
Usually chuck them in the bin!0 -
That's what I thought. Where the hell would you go to BUY something like that?????
If you're that desperate for one, I'm actually just about to take one off the communter so you're welcome to that. I'll not charge you for it, but you'll have to wait until my new wheels, cassette etc all show up because I cba messing about for it unless I've got other things to do at the same time.0 -

Yes, that's them.
I heard it can ruin your spokes if the chain slipped off. So I thought I would take a precaution and get one0 -
??
Adjust the limit screw so the chain won't come off...0 -

I'm knew to Mountain Biking and didn't want to ruin my gearing by messing with it.0 -
You don't need one anyway... as bennett says, if you set the rear mech up properly then it won't drop behind the cassette.0

How much was it? can't have been more than a few quid
Can send it back minus the postage!0 -

No hate at all, but I would assume they'd charge to put it on. Dismantling the wheel is not part of a check over.
But I guess if you ask nicely.I don't do smileys.

What bike is it? Did it not come with one fitted?
As said above, if your gears are properly set up the pie dish is surplus to reqirements anyway. Better to prevent the problem by having correctly set up gears than try and mask it by fitting a dork guard.0 -
Spend some time on Parktools - how to do everything.
Read 'Read this first' below.I don't do smileys.

I bet the real Rambo had a spoke protector on his bike too so don't let these monkeys dissuade you"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Assuming it cycles through the gears without skipping or anything, the only thing you'd need to touch is the top limiter anyway.0

I agree if everything's working well then it's not needed, but my rear mech took a hit and the next time I shifted onto the lowest gear the chain jumped up and wrote off all of the driveside spokes!
I probably wouldn't bother to remove one if I bought a bike fitted with one, but I also wouldn't bother buying and fitting one.0
