Focus Izalko gear cable

Hi folks, just a quick question. Before i rip out my front and rear gear cable and replace them, is there anything specific about the little barrel adjuster that i need to know. Does the cable just go from the shifers straight through the barrel adjuster or is it two seperate pieces of cable joined inside the barrel adjuster.

    It'll be the outer that's cut and the inner threads through the in-line cable adjuster.
