Another new bike question

Hi all. Just joined this forum after a few weeks of looking around.
Looking to buy a new bike for around the £500 mark. Mainly using it for the commute to work, tow paths, and quite fancy heading up to the sherwood pines to try a bit of off road.
I have been looking at the cannondale trial sl5 2112 and the specialized hardrock sports disc.
Both seem to have the same sort of spec to,me as a newbie to this but would be open to any other suggestions.

Halfords or Decalthlon usually get the thumbs up at that price point. IIRC (and I am sure a grown up will be along shortly to correct me if I am wrong) Voodoo Hoodoo and Rock rider 8.1 are the ones to look out for.2011 Giant Trance Ltd, 2016 Revs, XT bits etc.0

Not EVERY store has them but a mate of mine picked one up this afternoon from the bolton branch you will just have to phone round if you did want one.0 -
