I would be interested to hear about other clubs and what you all do:-
do you have club meeting HQ, is it a Hall, a Pub, do you own it or hire it
how often do you meet
what do you do there, what do you put on to get members down

Our club offer turbo sessions in our clubhouse during winter. Normally get about 8 or so turn up for a hour or so workout.
Summer we use it as a base for time trials and other racing.Yellow is the new Black.0 -

You go to a big warehouse, where a DJ (Disc Jockey) will be playing some 'thumping tunes'. You will be given a glowing stick, the idea being to wave this around in time with the music while 'throwing some shapes'. Although you are indoors you must wear sunglasses, I assume this is because the strope lights would give you a fit otherwise. Make sure the glasses are wacky as possible. Think Timmy Mallett.
At some point you will be offered some pills to really 'get into the beat.' This is probably not a good idea, however the club night is not deemed a success unless you get 'off your nut' so its really up to you.
On the plus side, you can wear yor lycra, and unlike other social situations, it will not be deemed as out of place, or odd.0 -

We don't have a HQ or base. We're a mainly a web based club like many others in London.
If people need to contact each other then the facebook page is most commonly used. If there's an upcoming event/race someone wants to target, then they can post on the fb page for others to join or anything else. We also have a website/monthly newsletter.
People usually catch up with each other on the club runs. Used to go for a cake stop back when there were a lot newbies coming along on the rides.0 -

well, as were an old club that has since moved onwards in terms of technology etc, we have always had a club house, we used to meet weekly but I ended that as numbers were too low to justify paying for hire, pretty dour premises at the time. We have a village Hall now and meet fortnightly, but numbers are not good given were 100+ membership, not all (few though) are on the web so I try to balance our website/FB with paper equivalents for news etc at the clubhouse. We have a C&R so we have an AGM and thus we need a HQ, club kit and club stock is brought to the clubhouse too, but I fear were getting close to becoming an internet club a route I don't want to us to go down.
So, wondering what others do, any ideas we can put on to get members down more.Team4Luke supports Cardiac Risk in the Young0 -

yes but how do you make democratic decisions on changes, do you have Rules/Constitution ?Team4Luke supports Cardiac Risk in the Young0 -
We mainly drink tea and eat a chocolate biscuit or two. Have a good chat etc. We meet once a week and probably 15 to 20 out of the 70 or so members turn up. Some nights people may buy club kit, in the winter we have a few turbo sessions. But mainly it is a way to say hello and catch up with other club members.0

Even yourself, you are only trying to nick ideas from other people on this forum. Why dont you canvass your membership asking them what will get them interested and see what comes up.
As to your first line, yes we do want better nights so more members come down, and yes again, it's getting the members more involved as they tend to let the committee do everything which isn't our role strictly.
As to your second line, as you don't know me you have no idea of the amount of work I do aside from organising club nights, what do you mean "nick ideas" what sort of an attitude is that, certainly one you won't get far with, we are all hear to help each other further cycling, if you can't help then simply do not reply. In future perhaps think on who you may be talking too with vastly more experience than you organising a very successful club - what do you do actively within your own club ? or do you sit back and let others do the work. This is just one area I would like to see improve, hence my post for some help and ideas, all others areas show an extremely capable and organised club.
As to your last line, yes we do but nothing comes from it.
I will monitor this post for helpful replies but will not respond to any more from you.Team4Luke supports Cardiac Risk in the Young0 -

pretty much what we do and nothing wrong in that, just the numbers have been falling off again. New HQ refurb soon might help though, so can't wait, hoping for wireless internet.Team4Luke supports Cardiac Risk in the Young0 -

this is a trend for sure.
We spend a lot of time with new members, firstly on first contact, then invited on rides without joining to see how they like things, members are informed beforehand to look out for these people and they then get looked after and already know their name and a little about them too, all our recent new joiners have given us great feedback on how they were introduced.Team4Luke supports Cardiac Risk in the Young0 -

For the Rugby Club, I have many years active involvment, currently I am an executive Director having been Club Captain, Membership Sec, Asst Dir of Rugby.
My Experience of such matters is extensive, such I know that when someone comes here asking what to do for his club he hasnt a clue what he is doing, as he hasnt even canvassed his membership as to there wants and needs!
Therefore I was being extremely helpful in directing you towards the root of your problem, ie finding out what the people you represent actually want! rather than what you think they want, or indeed what someone else on an internet forum thinks they want !0
