Hi
I would like to build up a Di2 bike. How tricky are the electricals and cabling please?

I would probably go Ultegra because it's cheaper and it seems the cabling is better. Undecided on frame.

I've built up about ten bikes from bare frames.

Would I need any extra tools?

Thanks

Alan

super easy, all the connectors are colour coded.

Very easy, will depend on wether you are putting onto a Di2 specific frame as to how the cabling goes, but either way it is simplistic. The Ultegra cabling is not better just different, ie the cable is slightly thinner and the connectiors are not compatible with Durace, but it is not better. Does the same job, in fact you could argue it is worse as the battery life on Ultegra is noticeably worse than Durace.
  • Thanks folks. Would I need any specialised tools or computer stuff?

    it's a little plastic pushy-forky type affair.

I'm interested in this, i got myself the Specialized Venge frame earlier in the year and put the Sram Force Groupset on it. I've only done about 100 miles on it, i really never thought about Di2 to be honest, but i had a yarn with the a few mates in the shop i used to work in in Belfast and i'm seriously considering going for it.

The Venge i assume is compatiable alright, but it's more the weight of the groupset i'd be concerned about. Is it that much heavier in comparison? Is Dura Ace worth the extra grand or so, seriously?

Dura ace di2 is about 250g heavier than standard dura ace.
