Last time I bought these I had :
SRAM PC1031 10 Speed Chain - 114 Links
SRAM PG1030 10 Speed Cassette - 11-36
Art Chainreaction the chain is in stock but the cassette has been discontinued. This got me thinking what i should be looking at to replace what I have - can I just any 10 spd chain and any 10 spd cassette? or is there more to it than this?

So no advantage to matching a shimano chain with a shimano cassette, or sram/sram?0

With the exception of a KMC chain, IMHO you are better off keeping with one brand.0

Nope. I'm running a Shimano XT cassette with a SRAM PC1051 chain...heard they last longer but dunno how true that is. Was using Shimano chains before."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

KMC chains, but cassettes don't seem to make much difference to me.I don't do smileys.

Yes. KMC also make Shimano chains, but IMO the KMC (different design) are better.
I've only ever snapped Sram, so I avoid them, but that might just be bad luck.
And KMC are often cheaper.I don't do smileys.

And their 'missing links' are the best.I don't do smileys.

I've snapped everything, but tend to revert to KMC (X10SLs from Taiwan via eBay, <£25 for the lightest practical chain out there).
XT cassette is a safe choice.0
