Hi everyone, I'm returning to mountain biking after a while and I've got the options to either buy a Trek 8900 ZR (2007 model) and a Trek Fuel Ex 8 (2009), and wondered what people thoguht was the best bet. I used to ride a Trek 6500 Disc (2006), which I enjoyed, but always found my legs doing a lot of work downhill over rocky ground, hence the thoughts about leaving the hardtail world to enter full sus. Just wondering if the 3 kg-ish lighter frame and higher spec of the 8900 ZR would cancel out the benefits of the Fuel Ex 8. Any help would be great!

The 8900 should go like a stabbed rat. FWIW I would gor for the HT.0

Cheers for the advice, I'm starting to think that way.0

On the other hand, it won't feel much different to the 6500 in the rough stuff. What kind of stuff are you riding? An FS is an FS and a HT a HT. Weight differences won't make one more or less like the other.0

Hi,
Riding over army training area ground, so rocky, sanding, muddy stuff, heathland. Not many roots and big bumps, lots of gravel/rocky hills to climb0
