ICE!! - Moorfoot Hills Today

I came around a corner today high up on the Moorfoot hills outside Edinburgh early this morning and the cyclist who had been 50 yards in front of me was lying spread eagled on the ground. Two seconds later I joined him! The road was a sheet of black ice which was impossible to see and must have formed quickly during the night after a heavy rain shower.
I fared a bit better than the guy in front of me as his helmet was smashed and he had cut his forehead and pretty much banged up down one side.
I escaped with only badly cut knee and scraped leg and a hole in my assos 3/4 but they were old and ready retirement.
Whoever you were in the red rapha outfit and on a colnago I hope you got home alright.

I didn't have to go into the hills to find ice on my commute this morning, my back wheel found a patch on the footbridge over the canal at Wester Hailes.
Not expecting any tomorrow though.Would welcome company for Sat rides west/south of Edinburgh, up to 3 hrs, 16mph ish. Please PM me if interested/able to help.0 -
I have been quite lucky, not really too much ice to be seen down here in Cambridge. Shame to hear you guys went down, but sounds like it wasn't too bad overall.0
