Hi

I've just bought a Specialized phenom pro saddle to replace a Romin evo which I didn't get on with. I was under the impression that the phenom was flatter than the romin but i've just received it in the post and they both look the same to me. Can anyone comment on how the phenom is to use. I've tried a couple of different hammock shaped saddles but after years of riding flites I always keep going back to the flatter styles.

Thanks
Lloyd

Like any saddle, depends on your backside and is a personal thing. The easiest might be to try it.

  • I'm aware that saddle preference is very subjective and there's no substitute for trying them out. However, my previous experience of hammock shaped saddles makes me think this ain't going to work and I may as well return it and save myself the £100. So, I'm just interested in what other peoples experiences were with them before I decide whether to return it.

Also I'm aware that it may be possible if I dont like the saddle to exchange it for another specialised saddle, but I'm not interested in any of the others so that don't help either.

I run a Phenom on my winter roadie. It's a very good saddle, with just a little more padding than their Toupe, which I use on my summer roadie!
I have a Romin, too. All of them are good saddles, but that is my opinion, and, as you know, if you don't like that 'hammock' styling, you won't like any!...

I've got a Phenom on my mtb and a Romin on my flat barred roadie and really like both, finally settled now after trying many saddles including a Toupe which I found a bit too flat for me. IMO you can't lump all saddles into a category like hammock, everyone raves about Charge Spoons but I couldn't get on with that or an SDG Bel Air which are both also hammock style and well rated.

  • I bought a Phenom to replace the saddle that came as standard on my Rockhopper and I find it far more comfortable than it's appearance would suggest. Mind you, I'd imagine sitting on a brick would probably have been more comfortable than the standard saddle...
  • Just out of curiosity doesn't anyone know if the shape of the phenom has changed in the last year or two? I've read a couple of people describing it as being flat like the toupe which certainly isn't the case for he 2012 model I've received.

The Phenom and the Toupe are flatter than the Romin, which ramps up at the back quite markedly. :?

Not tried a Romin, but like Toupes and Phenoms, although I've not used a Phenom on the road bikes.
