Cardiff to London Heathrow route

Hello,
Myself and a group of collegues are planning a cycling event from Cardiff (Millenium Stadium) to Heathrow Aiport to raise money for a friends son who has cerebral palsy and is going to the U.S. for a life changing operation.
A few of us drove the route from Cardiff last week to make notes and find a place to stop overnight. The route we took went too far along the River Severn instead of crossing on the old Severn Crossing which would add a good few hours onto the event.
Does anyone know where I am able to get better route information or perhaps someone has cycled this route before?
