New fork or bike?

edited October 2012 in MTB buying advice
Hi all. I was recently given a giant revel 1 in part payment for a job so cost me very little. 2012 version (full spec below). I've been doing a fair bit on it over last few months (having not done any MTBing before) and am starting to really enjoy it. However, it's clear there are a couple of issues with the bike, particularly on slightly more challenging (for me) sections. Firstly the fork is pretty poor - suntour XCT V4 80mm 28mm stanctions. It rattles about over rocks and doesn't seem up to job. Second (less of an issue) the chain slaps on the chainstay over the same rocks - all in all I feel a bit I'm on a rickety train.
I've got two options -
1- buy a hoodoo voodoo. This will cost me. I'll get £225 max for revel and the voodoo is £500.
2 - upgrade fork and do something about the chain. Fork aiming to spend £150-200 and still be a lot cheaper than replacing bike.
What do you think? If 2nd option, what fork should I go for and is the spec of the rest of the bike up to just upgrading?
All advice gratefully received!
