Replacement Mavic Wheels

Need a little help here please?
I have a set of Mavic Ksysrium SL Wheels that are about 6 years old and are starting to show their age, hub needing adjusted and spokes coming loose and the rims are nearly shot.
I am considering sending them back to Mavic, as I have been told by my local bike shop that I can get a new set of wheels for about two thirds of the price of a new set.
Is this correct and if so would it be against the 2012 / 2013 SL wheel set as the LBS wasn’t sure what years the actual wheels would be?
If it isn't the most up to date wheel set would I be as well picking up a set of Ksysrium Elite 2012 for £389?
Would the wheel sets have moved on that much in six years that the 2012 Elite wheels would be comparable with 2006 SL's
