I am just getting into cycling and have just bought my first road bike. I have been told to upgrade my tyres before anything else. My tyres are currently schwalbe Lugano. I won't be doing a lot of miles. So what would be a good upgrade tyre. Not too expensive. Or am I just better waiting till I need a new tyre?

Any advice would be great

Thanks

James

  • Schwalbe durano or vittoria rubino pro
  • I've run Luganos before and they're not too bad to be honest. Not the best rolling but fairly tough and decent grip.

It's something that is worth upgrading, but maybe not until next year once the winter is over.

Vittoria Rubino are a sound investment though.
  • When you say you have been advised to upgrade do you mean to increase performance by reducing rolling resistance or to give better puncture protection?

Either way it is still best to use your current tyres until they have worn out especially as you say you won't be doing a lot of miles. You cannot get cheaper than not buying anything and using what you already have.

Once they have worn out then ask for the most suitable tyres for your type of riding at that point in time. You never know you may be riding many more miles or racing when that day comes.
  • I would run with your existing tyres for the winter and treat yourself in the spring.
I am using Continental gp4000s but there is a wide choice out there and it does seem to be subjective :)
I paid around £55 for the pair
