Which Gilet?

I'm looking for a decent gilet to keep the rain and wind off without being boil in the bag that I can stick in my jersey pocket.

So far i've come across the Castelli Fawesome which seems to be pretty good on everything except packing down small and i've considered the Rapha Gilet as well. I'm not looking to spend more than £100 really and the Rapha one just sneaks under with the Sky code.

If anyone has suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Also if anyone knows of any wool socks that are thinner than the DeFeet Woolie Boolie 2 but not far off the warmth can they let me know!

Thanks

Mike

Check out Castelli's leggero gilet perhaps, rather than the fawsome. It's lightweight and packs down into a tiny size, and will keep wind / rain off your chest and shoulders where it matters. The back is largely mesh though so it is very breathable and you'll pick one up for around half the price of a Rapha.

The Rapha gilet is really well made but I ended up selling mine as I found it lacked enough breathability - the Castelli worked in a wider range of temperatures for me.

Mavic Espoir gilets are good. Windproof, breathable and extemely lightweight. They fold down small enough to stuff in a jersey pocket. You'll probably be able to find one for a third of you £100 budget.

Gore AS gilet is very good. Folds down small, and has access to jersey pockets without having to remove. About £65?

Ordered the Gore one and the Fawesome just so I could compare the two, not sure how the Castelli will fit but I know the Gore will. Will pick up some socks from my LBS.

    Thanks for the help

Update: Both arrived today and i've gone for the Castelli of the 2, the Gore was quite tight on my shoulders whereas the Castelli had a bit more give in the fabric. On first impressions the Castelli looks great and packs down alot more than I expected. I also picked up the Endura Winter Merino socks from my LBS and they are brilliant!
