Hi all

I'm after a bike gps with H/R monitor, originally I was after mapping as I don't know my local area very well but the edge 800 with HR is way over my budget. I then discovered on forums that the edge 500 can give turn warnings if you plan a route on bikeroutetoaster! This sounds perfect however,

Does anyone know if the cheaper Bryton 35/40 (or whatever the equivelant is) can do this as well?

If it can is Bryton the way to go or is it worth stumping the extra cash for a Garmin 500? Is the user interface/Garmin connect/ease of use/ realiability worth more money? (I've no experience of either brand so don't know which is better)

Thanks

......Forgot to add, how useful do people find a cadence sensor? What's the benefit?
  • Have you looked at the Bryton 50 - full gps mapping?

I have a 40 and while i havent used the mapping in the wild i put a route on and it just shows where you are on the route - a line as obv no map.

Im sure someone who uses it will explain better but well worth a look at the 50!

I use the cadence sensor, bought a garmin one as better than the bryton as does speed and cadence at same time - both very usefull to have IMO

Yeah I thought about the 50 but I don't really need maps. I usually plan a route online then set off with a map in my pocket, but always have to stop to see which left or right turn I was meant to take. From what I saw about the edge 500 you can plan a route on B.R.Toaster, ride out and follow the 'breadcrumb trail' but it can give you turn warnings however far in advance you want from each turn and again at the junction telling you what way to go. That's all I really need so if the Bryton 40 is capable of this and is that much cheaper and as good as the garmin, jobs a good'n...

....just need to find out if it does :)

Maybe I'll go for a bundle with cadance, I want to do some climbs next year so may have to learn a good cadence that leaves me some low gears when I hit a gradient more than 5%

    Hi,
I have been looking for an answer on the usefulness of navigating with the 40 for quite a while now, I would also like to have some sort of directions but I don't need the full map. Also I understand the 40 has a much longer battery life. Is there a limit to the length of the route the 40 can handle?

Yeah I'll keep trying to find out, I think my LBS stocks Bryton so I'll see if they know. I'd have thought if you can load route files onto it, it should be able to display turn warnings like the garmins, but what do I know? :?

Well I crumbled and ordered a garmin bundle, CRC have 25% off.
I know it can do what I want. Unless I knew Bryton could do what I wanted it to, I wasn't going to gamble on it for a slightly lower price.

In the end I ordered the Bryton 35, there was a very tempting offer at Evans. I like the look and feel a lot but I'm really curious to see how it functions. Will have to wait till Sunday though...
